Lost Czech plate numbers?

If you lose one or both of your Czech plate numbers, you are not allowed to drive your vehicle. Doing so could result in a fine of up to 10,000 CZK or even a driving ban for up to 12 months.

If you realize you've lost a plate while driving, it's crucial to stop immediately to avoid any penalties.

If your plate number was stolen, you must report it to the police. This is important because a stolen plate could be misused, and you might be wrongly accused of an offense you didn’t commit.

Whether your plate number was lost or stolen, you can apply for a replacement at the Regional Office or Vehicle Registry. If you’ve only lost one of the two plates, bring the remaining plate with you. You will also need to provide the following:

• Your ID or residency permit

• Both car certificates (roadworthiness and registration)

The cost for replacing both car plates is 450 CZK, or 250 CZK for a motorbike. The price remains the same regardless of whether the plate was lost or stolen.
