Where to change car ownership?
You can change car ownership at any Regional Office’s Vehicle Registry. However, keep in mind you will need all the necessary documents and both the buyer and the seller need to be present at the Office (with the exception of using the power of attorney, which has to be officially authenticated).
Which documents do I need?
Firstly, you will need to fill out an application form for registering the car to the road vehicle register. You can do that at the office. You will also need to show all the car documents. Overall, make sure to bring with you:
- form for registering the car to the road vehicle register
- purchase agreement
- certificate of roadworthiness
- car registration
- your personal identification documents (+power of attorney if applicable)
- vehicle registration check (STK) not older than 30 days
- proof of legal car insurance (green card)
Please keep in mind that after signing the purchase agreement, you have 10 days to change the ownership, otherwise the seller may face a fine. Meeting this deadline is always the responsibility of the seller, so make sure the buyer can be present at the office and do not pass over any of the car documents or the keys before the ownership change process
How much is it going to cost me?
The process of ownership change itself costs 800 CZK. If you need to make a vehicle registration check, prepare another 400 CZK. If your car is older and does not meet the current emission regulations, you will also need to pay ecological tax.
